FAQ

Wild Beach Blokart safari

What kind of wind is needed for Blokart landsailing?

Wild Beach Blokart safari requires a minimum wind speed of 10 knots (5 m/s) coming from the West, North-West, North, South-West, or South. With this wind, we use 5.5 sq.m. sails. For stronger winds (e.g., 14-20 knots), we switch to smaller 4.0 sq.m. sails, and when there’s a storm at sea, we bring out our smallest 3.0 sq.m. sails.
Sailing at the Nida aerodrome requires only 6 knots of wind from any direction.

From what age can you sail a Blokart?

Children from 9-10 years of age can sail if they have enough strength to hold the sail sheet rope and are not afraid of acceleration. We equip children with smaller sails depending on their weight.

Will an instructor accompany us during the Blokart safari?

Yes, our professional instructor usually accompanies the group during the Blokart safari. The instructor sails at the back of the group, gives instructions on what to do if needed, and helps participants overcome any challenges along the way 😉

Do we take a break for photos during the Blokart safari?

Stopping halfway through the Blokart safari to take photos and share impressions is possible and fun! However, this must be agreed upon in advance before starting so that the person sailing in front stops and waits for everyone. Land sailors often get far apart from each other, and it’s usually impossible to call out to the person ahead.

When exactly will we know if the wind is suitable on the scheduled day?

Blokart sailing is directly dependent on the wind (without wind or against the wind, the Blokart doesn’t move 🙂). We know the exact forecast 1-2 days before the sailing, and that’s when we finalize the details.

Several things are important to us:

  • Wind direction: All wind directions are suitable for sailing at the aerodrome. For beach landsailing, West, South-West, and North-West are ideal. North/South winds are also suitable for slower sailing.
  • Wind speed: Sailing at the aerodrome requires only 6 knots, while sailing on the beach needs at least 10 knots. The wind is never too strong for us – we have smaller sails for stronger winds. It’s only important that the beach isn’t completely flooded with water.

To sum up, “Nature is nature :),” so please be patient. You will find out the exact location, time, sail sizes, and other details on the eve of your sailing day because that’s when we get the most accurate forecasts to predict wind conditions.

Where will we start our Wild Beach Blokart safari?

The best conditions for Blokart sailing are on the wild beach between Smiltynė and Juodkrantė. The starting point depends on the wind direction (a Blokart cannot sail directly against the wind). Please be patient – we will coordinate the exact location and time the evening before, as this is when we have the most accurate forecast.

In 2 out of 3 cases, we can only sail in one direction (returning would be too slow or impossible), so we either start in Juodkrantė and finish in Smiltynė or vice versa. Rarely, we can start and finish in the same place (when there is a direct westerly wind blowing perpendicular to the shore).

Can we sail if it's raining?

You can sail a Blokart in both rain and snow 🙂 (as long as the snow layer doesn’t get in the way). The most important thing is proper clothing to protect you from the wind and precipitation. Our sailing motto is: “There is no bad weather, only bad clothing!”

What should I bring to a Blokart safari?

  • Bring a windproof and waterproof jacket or raincoat, and closed shoes you don’t mind getting wet.
  • Sunglasses are recommended, as the wind sometimes kicks up sand.
  • Bring sunscreen if it’s sunny.
  • If the weather is cool, pack a spare set of clothes – just in case you accidentally steer into a wave while overtaking a friend 🙂
  • If you are worried about getting blisters (sometimes you need to hold/pull the sail sheet tightly), it’s a good idea to bring gloves (cycling or gardening gloves work perfectly).
  • We provide helmets, but if you have a favorite personal one, feel free to bring it 😉

Is Blokart sailing safe?

Blokart sailing is a very safe activity/sport. Even with over two decades of professional racing experience, we haven’t seen any severe incidents, let alone in recreational sailing.

From the outside, Blokart sailing looks extreme and might seem scary, but 99% of people who try it say it’s much easier than they initially imagined.

What is the Blokart sailing cancellation policy?

1. Cancellation by the Client
If your plans change, please inform us as soon as possible. Refunds for the advance payment depend on the time remaining until the scheduled event:

  • Cancellations made 7 days or more prior to the event: 100% refund of the advance payment.
  • Cancellations made 3 to 6 days prior to the event: 50% refund of the advance payment.
  • Cancellations made on the day of the event (or less than 3 days prior): the advance payment is non-refundable.

2. Cancellation Due to Weather (Wind) Conditions
Blokart sailing is highly dependent on natural conditions. If the weather forecast for the scheduled day does not indicate suitable wind for safe and quality sailing, we offer the following solutions:

  • Rescheduling: Free transfer of your reservation to an alternative date suitable for both parties.
  • Alternative activities: Choosing other activities provided by Irklakojis, such as landsailing at an aerodrome (subject to availability), a canoe tour, a bicycle tour, or similar active leisure options.

If you choose not to accept the alternative activities and cannot or do not wish to reschedule the event, a 50 EUR cancellation fee will be applied (this amount will be deducted from your advance payment).

Canoe Tours

What should I bring to a canoe tour?

  • Make sure to bring drinking water!
  • Bring a hat to protect yourself from the hot sun.
  • You get sunburned much faster and stronger on the water than usual, so pack some sunscreen.
  • If the weather is cooler, bring a spare set of clothes just in case you accidentally capsize or fall into the water (though this happens very rarely!).
  • If rain is in the forecast, bring a waterproof jacket or raincoat.
  • If you are worried about getting blisters while paddling, it’s a good idea to bring gloves (cycling or gardening gloves work).
  • We provide a large dry bag for each canoe where you can safely store your electronics or a small backpack.

Do I need special preparation to go canoeing?

Anyone who wants to can go canoeing! Our canoes are stable – they are 1 meter wide in the middle. Before the tour, we closely monitor the weather forecasts and always try to paddle downwind. We don’t fight nature; we try to adapt and use the wind’s power to help us paddle.

You can paddle with double-bladed paddles (just like a kayak), so you don’t need any special preparation. However, if you prefer, just ask, and we’ll provide real single-bladed canoe paddles (using these requires at least a little practice). The most important thing is to bring a good mood! 🙂

Can I bring my camera, phone, or similar equipment on the tour?

You can bring all the personal items you need. However, we advise keeping them safely in a dry bag while paddling. Sometimes water drips from the paddles, it starts to rain, or a canoe accidentally capsizes – in such cases, your belongings can get wet. Since you are responsible for the safety of your belongings, we recommend bringing your own dry bag. If you don’t have one, we will provide a large shared dry bag for each canoe – just ask us for it 😉.

Are your canoes multi-seat?

Our canoes are three-seaters, but they are usually paddled by two people. A “captain” sits in the middle, who doesn’t paddle and can capture the best moments of the tour. Halfway through the tour, you can switch places to save energy.
We will arrange the seating based on discussions with the group. Our guide will sit and paddle with one of the participants.

P.S. For simplicity, we paddle the canoes with kayak paddles, but if you prefer, just ask, and we’ll provide real canoe paddles (using these requires at least a little practice).
