Sailing tour “Dunes, sand, wind, and water”

Description

Embark on a two-day sailing adventure aboard a yacht on the largest inland body of water in Lithuania – the Curonian Lagoon!

Since ancient times, the inhabitants of the Curonian Spit traveled by sail, as it was the cheapest and fastest way to reach Lithuania. Today, sailing in the Curonian Spit is relevant – it’s romantic, ecological, and, most importantly, affordable (accommodation on the yacht upon arrival in Nida or Juodkrantė is free)!

First day

The long route “From the port city to the Russian border” lasts two days and extends from Klaipėda to Nida. We set sail from Klaipėda – one of the largest ports in the Baltic countries. Passing by the Pig’s Back Island, we head towards Juodkrantė, where the first overnight stay is planned. In the evening, participants can enjoy a night walk to the Hill of Witches with a torch and listen to the spooky stories told by the ship’s captain about witches, devils, and mysterious shipwrecks (not recommended for children under 10 years old).

Second day

At dawn, participants raise the sails and head towards Nida. The current of the Curonian Lagoon helps the boat move south, so sailing even in very weak wind progresses forward through the waters. Upon reaching the Nagliai Horn, sailors are greeted by the unique beauty of the Dead Dunes located in the Nagliai Nature Reserve, where walking is prohibited. The wild sandy nature reserve extends for 9 km – to the only lighthouse standing in the water in all of the Curonian Lagoon – Pervalka Lighthouse. The green coastline of the Nerija Spit running past Pervalka no longer resembles the times when only sand reigned here. However, the captain will show the most curious where five villages of old Curonians buried under sand lie along the way. Approaching Nida, sand landscapes reappear – these are the dunes of Parnidis and Sklandytojai. The latter is the highest in Europe – 56 meters high. After admiring these natural wonders, participants will moor in the port of Nida, where this Baltic sailing trip ends after a walk to the lighthouse.
